16A –What’s Your Secret Sauce?
Five ways in which I think I have human capital that is truly unique.
Five ways in which I think I have human capital that is truly unique consist of my natural ability to organize effectively, easily empathizing with and relating to others such as my peers, I’m driven to complete a task; no matter how difficult it is, the fact that I really enjoy learning new things; finding it easy for me to pick up required skills for the task at hand, and how I truly enjoy excelling and pushing myself; always looking forward to tasks where I can learn something new and grow as a person. As the treasurer of the Chinese American Student Association at the University of Florida, I came up with a plan to reorganize the organization's supply closet by category. Because items were easier to find, we placed fewer orders and saved money on cultural supplies year after year. My skill to empathize with others has helped me multiple times as an officer for a student organization, because I was able to quickly identify and understand their pain points and challenges, I was able to establish trust and build relationships, both of which drove me to consistently exceed my quota. I also enjoy working in a fast-paced atmosphere with a lot going on and am always willing to take on a challenge due to my strong work ethic. When working on assignments, I require little to no supervision and strive to get the work done within a timely and professional manner. Whenever I encounter an issue, I initially try to overcome it myself, by searching up a solution or trying to solve the issue on my own first before seeking help.

Summary: Kevin Nguyen is one of my close friends, and my key takeaways are being someone that is always on the study grind in order to make that dough, or money, in order to become successful in the future. I am a real homie, or something that is extremely reliable and easy to be dependable upon, consistently showing up to meetings on time along with never missing a deadline. I am also an extremely trustworthy person who is good at keeping secrets.
Reflection: I see myself as someone that is self-motivated, organized and detail oriented. As a result of being highly organized, I have never missed a deadline before, and I am able to apply my organization skills towards both people and projects in all aspects of my work. Others see me as someone that is hard-working, honest, and reliable. There are some slight differences in how I assess myself compared to others, the way I portray myself or show myself in public is drastically different from how I perceive myself as a person. The words that my friends used to describe me were also on an external factor, as opposed to more personality trait-like, which was what I based my perception of myself upon. The possible cause of the discrepancies is that I asked my friends, who I met through student or class organizations or hang out with outside of class, they have never seen me within a professional setting before, such as the classroom or during meetings. This may also be due to my involvement in student organizations, since I tend to play piano for them during cultural performances. I would not make any corrections to my list because the five ways in which I think I have human capital that is truly unique overlapped with how others viewed me. Human capital is valuable because it promotes economic growth and productivity along with sustainability, what we leave to future generations; whether we leave enough resources, of all kinds, to provide them with the opportunities at least as large as the ones we have had ourselves in order to maintain the skills, education, and capacity of the people.

Hey Arlene,
ReplyDeleteI think you have done a great job at identifying your human capital. You do have some amazing qualities which will benefit you in the long run, such as being organized and self-motivated. As a reader of your blog posts, I do sense those qualities in you. Even though I don't know you personally, your assignments do reflect your human capital you describe here. As always, great job!
Hello Arlene,
ReplyDeleteI think your post was wonderful and well organized. You adequately compared and contrasted your views of your human capital with your friend’s views. As you stated looking with both an external and internal lens at yourself gives you a holistic view of your human capital. I like how you included an example of applying your skills during your time with Chinese American Student Association.
Hi Arlene,
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job analyzing yourself and then comparing your responses to those observations your friends made. Even though we don't think about it often, it's true that a lot of us are very different in a professional setting as opposed to when we're just hanging out with friends or family. Moreover, when identifying what sets you apart from others, I specifically liked how you provided examples to truly show those that don't really know you just how hard working and dedicated you are, especially considering you've never missed a deadline. That's incredibly admirable and worth the recognition! Great post!
